Into the Woods with Red Riding Hood
Exhibit July 28 – Oct 31, 2011. 2nd year partnership with Squamish Arts Council and Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival for this year’s SDLSF 2011 event. Multi Disciplinary art exhibits begin duringSquamish Days Loggers Sports Festival (BC Labour Day long weekend, July/August) and take place at the Squamish Arts Council Building at 37950 Cleveland, and also at SAC Artisan Galleries at 1336 Main Street, and the Loggers Sports Grounds. Exhibit duration varies with each venue. Opening Soiree Thursday, July 28 at SAC Building, with Red Riding Hood theme.
INTO THE WOODS is an art exhibit celebrating our local Squamish culture, featuring both the natural forest world and also our Logging heritage. For centuries the natural world has been celebrated by artists and scholars through visual art, the written word, and even by preserving found objects such as nests and seed pods in Naturalists' Cabinets. As humans we are predisposed to fascination with nature, and ensuring life cycles and growth. The venerable tree symbolizes life in every culture. Consider Emerson's quote “in the woods is perpetual youth”.
The annual Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival has the honorable distinction of celebrating over 50 years of international caliber loggers’ sports taking place in Squamish. The SDLS festival attracts competitors and visitors from around the world, and is one of the largest events in the corridor.
This “Into The Woods” exhibit celebrates local history, arts, sport and heritage, and aims to raise awareness, create new synergies, and build audiences for both the arts & sport. We are seeking works of exceptional quality that are inspired by either our surrounding forest, or the spirit of logging or the Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival, which reveal the creativity of our unique artistic community. All mediums are welcome, including dimensional work, textile, film, video, paintings, photography and the written word. Photography can include forest inspired images; and/or past loggers sports events; or historical images.
Exhibit is curated by Krisztina Egyed

We make eco-friendly BRODA wood stain, a great product originally developed in Whistler.
We feature a skier on the label of our BRODA cans and it's time to upgrade the image - so we're running a fun online photo competition offering a $500 prize to the best shot for use on our new labels. (not huge, I know, but hopefully decent) Deadline March 15.
If you have a shot or two in the archive we'd love to see it. Or, if you know of any hungry young shooters who could use the $500, please spread the word.
Here's the web link to the contest
